Episode 58: Love, Life and Laughter! With Georgina Penney
Wednesday Mar 22, 2017
Wednesday Mar 22, 2017
Catherine Plano is here today with Georgina Penney. Georgina first discovered romance novels when she was eleven and has been a fan of the genre ever since. It took her another eighteen years to finally sit in front of a keyboard and get something down on the page but that's alright, she was busy doing other things until then.
Some of those things included living in a ridiculous number of towns and cities in Australia before relocating overseas to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam and currently, Scotland.
Today she lives with her wonderful husband, Tony in a cozy steading in the Scottish countryside. When she's not swearing at her characters and trying to cram them into her plot, she can be found traipsing over fields, gazing at hairy coos and imagining buff medieval Scotsmen in kilts (who have access to shower facilities and deodorant) living behind every bramble hedge.

Episode 54: Motivation from Your Mind, Movement and Meaning with Trish Blackwell
Wednesday Feb 22, 2017
Wednesday Feb 22, 2017
Catherine Plano is here today with Trish Blackwell. Trish Blackwell believes that we can become more of who we were created to be by investing daily in our mind, movement and meaning. She celebrates the purpose and calling in every person she meets and teaches people how to have the confidence to live courageous in order to make a contribution to this world that deeply matters. It is when we become more of who we are that we can ultimately live out our full potential of who God created us to be.
Blackwell is a recognized fitness professional and thought leader committed to inspiring others to live with more confidence, health and happiness from the inside out. Her unique, three-pronged approach – motivation for your mind, movement and meaning – offers a holistic focus on personal growth and development. Particularly passionate about bringing hope to those who struggle with perfectionism, negative body image, eating disorders, compulsive exercise or confidence issues, Blackwell has become the leader on image issues in the fitness industry. Her own struggle with eating disorders and body dsymorphia plagued her for a full decade, though she hid it well behind a façade of perfectionism and feigned happiness. Trish knows what it feels like to feel trapped inside of your own body and is committed to helping others find the freedom to love the skin they’re in that she was finally able to find through her journey. Confidence coach, life coach, personal trainer, author, speaker and podcaster, Trish inspires her community across the world to conquer life with confidence.
A graduate of Davidson College (B.A. French, laude), Blackwell was a full-scholarship Division I swimmer. After Davidson she moved to France where she competed in swimming internationally as she taught English in the French school systems. It was in France that she discovered self-acceptance and how to live life to the fullest.
Her personal journey has taken her through many stages of negative and toxic living: destructive perfectionism, an eating disorder, a broken heart from an abusive relationship and sexual assault that threw her into a deep depression. Trish learned to train her mind, declaring herself to be victorious over her circumstances, not a victim of them. Now Trish knows that it is never too late to pursue living the life of your dreams. She coaches people across the globe to make radical lifestyle changes so that they can let their unique story and purpose shine.

At the time she was given a 50% chance of ever walking again.Unprepared to accept this as her fate, within six weeks, she stunned her doctors by not only walking, but running. This prompted her to swap a fast paced career in the fashion industry to go back to study and research how she achieved such a rapid recovery.

As an accredited Sports Kinesiologist, working in her own practice, Bend Like Bamboo, Amanda now spends her days helping a wide range of people recover their health and rebuild their lives.
Core to everything Amanda does, is improving the health and well being of as many Australians as possible.

Where Bend Like Bamboo aims to improve people’s mental health, Nourissh is squarely focused on giving people a convenient, delicious way to improve their physical health.

Episode 48: Dealing with Autism with Randa Habelrih
Wednesday Jan 11, 2017
Wednesday Jan 11, 2017
Catherine Plano is here today with Randa Habelrih. Randa Habelrih is an author, speaker, inclusion advocate and advisor. She is the author of the book “Dealing with Autism” and founder of MATES.
Randa’s 19 years of experience in raising a child with autism sparked her passion to help others understand the unique needs that parents, teachers and health care professionals have when dealing with autism. She has trained in various methodologies designed to assist children living with autism, including Doman Therapy, the Son-Rise Program and Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA).
Following a heartbreaking bullying incident at school Randa felt the need to speak directly to his peers via social media and so created a YouTube video asking them to just be kind. FYI here is the link: https://youtu.be/m3Nw7H6DqBU. This received a huge response from mothers and teachers; it also won a prize in a short film competition but more importantly his peers saw it.
The book “Dealing With Autism” was therefore the next part of the response to the exclusion and isolation that Randa’s son experienced but it was not enough to just share the narrative, as a society “we need to be proactive and encourage genuine, practical inclusion for our children.”
Randa has further extrapolated the MATES concept and is working at shining the spotlight via her Model MATES project; whereby models of differing abilities strut their stuff alongside professionals in the modelling industry. “It’s time we focused on what our children can do rather than what they can’t.” High fashion and modeling usually present a glamorous, unattainable ideal of perfection...
Model MATES is about presenting an alternative vision.
Randa is not only a sought after speaker, she is also an adviser, currently being involved in an advisory committee to the shadow minister for disability and also having sat on the governance committee for “The Eileen O’Conner School for Students with Special Needs”, the Sydney CEO’s first purpose built school for students with special needs. Additionally she is an advisor and advocate for parents who experience challenges with their children’s schooling.
Randa’s passion now lies in shifting the focus from AWARENESS of people living with social exclusion to their INCLUSION and also in fostering the leadership skills of our youth and sharing her message of hope, determination and empowerment.

Episode 47: Align your Soul Potential with Patty Kikos
Wednesday Jan 04, 2017
Wednesday Jan 04, 2017
Catherine Plano is here today with Patty Kikos. Patty Kikos is passionate about empowering people so that they can clear their blocks, shine their light and magnify their potential. She's made it her mission to demystify the woo woo behind esoteric teachings in a way that is not only fun and light hearted, but is also palatable and easy to implement into our every day life.
She is a humanitarian (and used to be a social worker) and she believes in the power of unity, philanthropy and activism, as well as advocacy and education. But most of all, Patty believes that if we are to be of service to others, we must first take care of ourselves and understand how to balance, align and transform our own energy.
Patty Kikos used to be an expert in the art of a NON-balanced life as a driven type A personality who yearned to find meaning while helping others. She had great altruistic intentions – but no spiritual toolkit to keep her on track.
She worked as a social worker and counselor and tried to ‘balance’ the stress of her job by teaching dance. When my deep unhappiness didn’t stir her soul into taking action to change her life, an adrenal burnout subsequently got her attention.
Version 2.0 of her professional qualifications morphed into the wellness industry where she acquired a few more qualifications that were more aligned with her spirit. She studied kinesiology, became a Reiki master as well as an energy healer.

Episode 44: Changing Women’s Lives One Run at a Time! With Erica King
Wednesday Nov 30, 2016
Wednesday Nov 30, 2016
Catherine Plano is here today with Erica King. Erica’s first entry into business started when she was 10 in hospitality with her family catering and restaurant businesses.
From there, she worked as a make-up artist in film and television, travelling the world and rubbing shoulders with both Australian and international personalities. Erica also completed a thesis on tribal customs in New Guinea while living with a remote tribe in the highlands of PNG. After studying psychology, Erica transitioned into the corporate world, providing management training in her area of specialty – organisational change.
That led her to the dental profession where she provided management consultancy services to 575 privately owned dental practices for 17 years. This was a leading dental management organisation that achieved very significant gains for its clients.
Eventually, Erica owned and managed a group of dental practices alongside her partner in suburban Melbourne for another 12 years. She managed a total of 150 staff members across 6 locations.
It was during this last phase of her dental career that ended in 2016 that Erica chose to follow through with her passion and commit 100% of her time to making a real difference in women’s lives with running.
This decision was in the making for a long time, 14 years to be exact, when Erica decided to learn to run, literally from scratch at 38-years-old. Previously, she had been involved in ocean swimming and general gym type fitness. Erica was on the search for a new challenge as she felt she was stuck in a rut.
Erica being Erica, she then thought of the toughest running challenge there is – a marathon. Where would make for the most exciting city in the world to run a marathon? New York City!
Erica says her journey proved to be a lonely but wonderful experience - she recalls feeling the fresh air, thinking of nothing, having no mobile phone and no distractions while out running… just complete peace and time for myself.
As you’d expect, Erica’s journey generated widespread media attention, both as a result of her audacious goal and because she was raising money for Breast Cancer Research.
Finally, after all of the hard training, Erica found herself standing at the starting line on Staten Island in New York alongside another 30,000 runners from all over the world, listening to a band play New York, New York. It was 6 degrees celsius - the wind was icy and Erica could not have felt more excited in her life.
The entire race route was lined with thousands of cheering, enthusiastic spectators and Erica recalls just how emotional crossing the finish line in Central Park was – with tears of joy streaming down her face and every part of her body screaming, Erica had just run 42.195kms for the very first time in 4 hours and 50 mins.
While it’s not a great time for a seasoned runner, for Erica, it was a fantastic achievement and she wasn’t fussed about the time. Erica is not a professional athlete and could not even run a step 10 months before. She is just someone who set a goal and achieved it. From that moment on, Erica knew she could truly achieve anything that she set her mind to. And best of all, Erica raised AUD $97,000 for Breast Cancer Research.
Now that she had the running bug, Erica wanted to do more marathons and half marathons. Since New York in 2002, Erica has run 21 Marathons including all 6 World Major Marathons (New York/Boston/London/Berlin/Chicago/Tokyo), plus many half marathons and shorter races with the running group.
It was at the San Francisco marathon expo in 2007 that Erica came across an American clothing company called – yes you guessed it – Running Divas.
Fast forward nine years and here we are! An incredible 124,000 women have found one another because of running. The friendship, camaraderie, support, advice and encouragement shown by this group is incredible.
We want all women to have this same opportunity to share the love of running, regardless of their age, body shape or life experiences. Anyone can achieve amazing things and Running Divas is here to support women on their journey to change their lives, one run at a time.

Wednesday Nov 23, 2016
Wednesday Nov 23, 2016
Catherine Plano is here today with Monica Kade. Monica Kade is the Director of The Moment HQ; a storytelling platform for professionals and businesses, which specialises in the human story.
Monica has over 12 years experience in publishing, media and entrepreneurship. She's inspired by the human spirit, creativity and connecting people to their dreams.
Her philosophy in life is to share the feeling that moves her. She does this by weaving together words that reach into an individual's heart, interviews or illuminates another’s work and shares this with the world.
In 2007, she began her successful online ventures, Mink Magazine and Career Confessions, through which she has interviewed hundreds of the world’s Entrepreneurs, Business and Sports Professionals, Thought Leaders and Celebrities on how they got to where they are in their career. In 2008 she was nominated an Anthill Business Magazine Top 30 under 30 Entrepreneur for these businesses.
More recently, Monica was the Managing Editor for Aspire and My Business Magazines. She rebranded and launched Aspire, taking it from a digital publication to a print newsstand magazine in 2015 - with no previous print magazine experience.
She has lived in New York City, and her greatest love is the ocean.
Monica was featured in CLEO Magazine's June 2012 issue and on Channel 7's Weekend Sunrise discussing body image and healthy living. Her book, Change in One Moment: Health starts in your mind will be released in 2017.
